Kareem Mitchell is a Toronto-based artist, fashion designer, and architectural/urban designer whose work explores the intersection of fashion, art, and spatial design. Through rigorous creative exploration, he transforms artistic concepts into garments, artwork, and design experiences. Kareem believes creativity transcends disciplinary boundaries that ideas and skills can move fluidly across mediums. Grounded in empathy and storytelling, his interdisciplinary practice merges design, art, and culture through a lens of spatial thinking. His visual perspective has gained recognition among industry professionals, leading to collaborations with clients across architecture, fashion, technology, education, and production.

He received his Master of Architecture in 2020 from Carleton University, where he also completed his Bachelor of Architectural Studies. His academic interests include the sustainable growth of cities, global urbanization, and the cultural dimensions of architecture, leading him to pursue research and design initiatives across Europe, Asia, and Africa.

During his studies, Kareem contributed to research exploring digital storytelling and heritage architecture with the Azrieli School of Architecture and Urbanism’s CIMS Lab and the Virtual Historic Dublin Project in Ireland. He also participated in international design initiatives in Cape Town and Luanda focused on community development and housing strategies within rapidly urbanizing environments.

His graduate work received the Excellence in Thesis Design distinction, and he later served as a Studio Instructor and Teaching Fellow for undergraduate design studios.

As an artist, Kareem’s work expresses emotion through the magnification of color, figure, and conceptual abstraction. His artwork has been exhibited at galleries including the Ottawa Art Gallery. Through KDJM Studio, he has showcased clothing collections inspired by his artwork at Fashion Art Toronto, Runway for Hope, and RunwayTO.

His work has also received recognition from Black Designers of Canada, and he won 1st Place in Avant-Garde Streetwear at the Evolution of Fashion.
